Can you please provide more details regarding this? like, where do you click the “message” link? is it BuddyPress profiles?
The clicked link should be something as site.ext/messages/?recipient=2 and destination should be site.ext/messages/?conversation=0123456789 as a new conversation is being created..

Hi Samuel! Thanks for the response, I am clicking on the “message” button on one of the profiles on the user page. When I click link, it takes me to this page http://ipaddress/?page_id=85?recipient=5 but there is no place to start a new message. It just tells me that I have no conversations.
I’d paste a screenshot, but I can’t on this forum.

Oh, and it is not a Buddypress profile. Its the wpchat user profile.

Thank you for sharing the URL format. To be honest, you will always encounter those problems for the current version until you change your permalink structure from ‘settings > permalinks’ from the default one. I recommend you switch that to ‘post name’ format which is also better for search engine optimization. Doing so will definitely resolve your issue.
