Meta Descriptions/Title Tag Rewriter Text Fields empty

New to this. Both the Meta Descriptions and Title Tag Rewriter modules are ENABLED. However, when I go to Meta Descriptions – Pages and type a description in the text field next to a page and hit ‘Save Changes’ the text disappears and I’m returned to the Defaults Format page of the module. Same for Title Tag Rewriter. I must be doing something obviously wrong but don’t know what. Help?
