I am going to migrate my site to another hosting provider.

There are three WordPress installations with Jetpack active on all three.

Should I deactivate the plugin until the migration is complete?

    Hi @almendron,

Thanks for reaching out! If you’re migrating your site to a new host and Jetpack is active on it, there’s no need to manually deactivate the plugin beforehand — especially if you’re using Jetpack VaultPress Backup to migrate.

    Here’s what I’d suggest:

    • Keep Jetpack active during the migration. This allows you to use features like site cloning from the Jetpack Cloud dashboard, which can copy your content and settings to the new server.
    • In case you’re migrating three different installations, just make sure each new destination site has WordPress properly set up and accessible before starting the move.

You can read more about that here: https://jetpack.com/support/backup/cloning/

Let me know if this helps or if you have any questions.

    Thanks for the information.

The site migration is being handled by the new hosting provider’s staff.

I was asking whether it would be advisable to deactivate the plugin while the IPs and DNS are being propagated.

    Hi @almendron,

Thanks for the follow-up — and great question!

Since your hosting provider is handling the migration and DNS changes are in progress, the safest option is to deactivate Jetpack on the old server before the DNS fully propagates. Then, once the new server is live and serving your site, you can simply reconnect Jetpack there.

This helps avoid any potential “Identity Crisis,” where Jetpack might think it’s looking at a completely different site and accidentally break the connection to your stats, subscribers, or backups.

Let me know once everything’s live — we’d be happy to help you confirm the new connection if needed!
