Migrate within same domain

I’m looking at migrating one of my Joomla site (www.summernailservices.com) to wordpress. But the instruction seems to be suggesting to migrating from another domain or host.

I’m running Joomla in one domain and wish to migrate to wordpress within the same domain. How can I do that?

Or is there any instruction that I’d understand wrongly.

I think I wouldn’t be able to install wordpress within the same domain, hence I’m stuck in the process of migration.

As wordpress would have it’s own theme, after migration how much changes am I going to expect or makes changes to? The menu remains? The pages and images remains?

You can install WordPress on the same site as Joomla, in /wp for instance.
When your WordPress site will be ready, you can move it to the root in replacement of Joomla.
All the Joomla articles and images will be imported into WordPress. For the menus, it is a Premium feature. http://www.fredericgilles.net/fg-joomla-to-wordpress/

Hi Kerfred,

Do you mean that I can install WordPress in the sub domain without crashing Joomla?
I don’t get what do you mean by moving it to the root to replace Joomla.
Any example how can this be done?

After the import how mess would it be?
Would I be able to manually sort them out?

Not necessary on a sub domain, but on a subdirectory of Joomla.

For example, you can have Joomla stored on /www and WordPress on /www/wp
The Joomla site is not modified by the import.

After the WordPress site is complete, you can move Joomla to /www/joomla for backup and move WordPress from /www/wp to /www in replacement of Joomla.

I have some follow-up questions to this thread about internal domain migration that I’m hoping you can help me with, Kerfred:

1) How do I best move all of the WordPress files from /wp to www?(Via C-Panel FTP?)

2) What will happen to WP’s connection to its database after I move all WP files from /wp to www — will I need to change any database settings?

3) What will happen to page URLs for WP pages once I have moved all WP files from /wp to www? (Do I need to run “Remove Prefixes” and “Modify Internal Links” in the Joomla FG plugin again, once I have moved everything from /wp to www?)

4) What will happen to the Joomla database and URLs — will I be able to navigate my entire old Joomla-based site at /joomla without making any modifications to Joomla pages and the Joomla database? (I would like to still be able to navigate the entire old joomla 1.5 based site at /joomla)

5) What will happen in terms of Google searches that used to find my Joomla based URLs, e.g. http://solarchargeddriving.com/editors-blog/on-going-solar/1218-grid-parity-wont-grow-rooftop-solar-very-much.html — will Google searches just return dead links? If yes, what, if anything, can I do to ensure my new WordPress-based version of SolarChargedDriving.Com is properly indexed/found by Google?
