    Hi all,

I am moving my site http://www.EuroSoccerWeb.com to my new domain http://www.EuroFootballWeb.com.

I would like to do 2 things:

    1) Import all existing posts from EuroSoccerWeb ino EuroFootballWeb.
    2) Make EuroSoccerWeb.com re-direct to EuroFootballWeb.com

EuroSoccerWeb uses wordpress 3.4.2 while EuroFootballWeb is using 3.5.1. I have backed up the database using the ‘phpmyadmin’. I also backed it up using the wordpress export tool (just to be safe).

I am concerned that the posts will not integrate into the new site seamlessly since they have different versions of wordpress. Also, the new site already has some post content, so I don’t want to lose those.

The re-direct thing should be fairly straightforward, but would appreciate some help on moving all the posts/pages/media into the new site.

    Thanks!

    Follow the instructions here:
    http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Moving_WordPress

Provided that you do it correctly and your theme is compatible with 3.5.1, you shouldn’t have any problem when you move your posts.

    Hi DJ,

Thanks for your reply. Those instructions want you to move the actual wordpress files around on your server.

I was under the impression that you would plug in the database file (from the old site) into the new site and it automatically starts importing the posts into your new site. Please remember I need to retain the existing posts on the new site, while adding the posts from the old site. Is it not done this way?

I just realised that I was actually unable to export the database through the wordpress dashboard. It keeps giving a “failed – network error” message. I tried it on 2 browsers and same result. Not sure what to do. I do have the database backed up through the phpmyadmin dashboard though.

Ok, it looks like if you export the posts for incremental time periods, it works fine. It just couldn’t export them all at once (go figure).
I hope that when I import into the new site, it keeps the featured images.

The categories of the old posts seem to get added into the new site correctly, but I am not sure how it handles duplicate categories. For example, if you have a category called ABC on the new site, will it import all ‘ABC’ posts into the existing ABC category of the new site, or will create a duplicate category?

As for updating the link structures, I understand there’s a plugin which helps you update all your links in one shot.

Is there anything else to be concerned about?
