  • I assume you mean that most of the emails EBD is sending out are ending up in the user’s spam folder or possibly not showing up at all, correct?

If that’s right, then the problem is most likely due to the From: of the email. Many email providers will either not accept email at all or will accept it but it will end up in the spam folder because the From: of the email is going to make it look like spam if you are using a shared-hosting provider like a Bluehost or a Hostgator or something like that.

In other words, if your website’s domain is thisismydomainname.com then you need the From: of your outgoing email to be [email protected] but that’s not going to be what it is on Bluehost or Hostgator or any shared-hosting provider.

To fix that, you can install the Postman SMTP plugin from Jason Hendriks. That’s what most people on here do when they realize that some of the outgoing mail is not arriving (Yahoo mail will block it, so you can use a Yahoo mail account to test with and see if it shows up or not). If you don’t want to use Postman SMTP then you can use a plugin called Custom Sender For Email Before Download which allows you to type in the From: for EBD’s outgoing emails (and that’s all it does). Note that if you use that plugin, then you may have to put that From: value back in there every time you resave your EBD settings (at least for me, it wipes out that value every time I resave EBD settings and I have to go put it back in there).

So, generally that’s going to fix everything. However, if you continue to have problems getting email into the Inbox rather than the Spam folder, then you need to look into doing some of the anti-spam stuff like setting your SPF, DomainKeys, DMARC, etc — that will take some time & research on your part.

Thanks for a very full response!

You are correct – many of the emails EBD is sending out are ending up in the user’s spam folder or not showing up at all.

I have installed Postman SMTP and it certainly does help.

I have also set the SPF record in my DNS.

I am on shared hosting which does not allow DKIM.

My host suggested I check my emails at https://www.mail-tester.com/ and this is where I picked up the MIME/Multi-part idea as it is one way to reduce your spam ‘score’.

    Thanks again for your help.

Good, sounds like you’ve made some good progress.

The content of your message does make a difference (of course) as to whether the receiver’s email provider thinks it’s spam or not. The default email EBD sends out is pretty spartan, but it does get through to the Inbox as long as the From: is good (and having SPF helps).

On the From:, make sure you not only have it using your domain name, but also a real actual email account (go make one in your hosting provider cpanel if you need to). In other words, if it comes from [email protected] then someone should be able to send an email to [email protected] and it actually appears in some inbox somewhere rather than rejecting.
