Hey jantz,
It’s impossible for us to say for sure what issues your site may experience. That being said, using PHP versions below the requirement can lead to the conflicts or incompatibilities which can cause the plugin to not work. This means even if this plugin works on your version of PHP if another plugin does not – it could interfere with Stripe working normally. As well, it can potentially leave your site vulnerable to any securities risks that come from running older versions.
PHP 5.5 was considered ‘end of life’ over 8 months ago, which means it is no longer supported or updated by the PHP community. As such, it’s likely the more you update your WooCommerce site, as well as it’s plugins and themes, that you will encounter problems.
If you don’t experience issues, you could continue using your current host – though you should expect your web host to keep your server up to date with current versions of software such as PHP and MySQL.
Hello,
I have the same problem.
I have used Stripe last version 3.1.7 , so it didn’t work with my website because the host server have only php 5.5 version and not 5.6.
Could you please send me an old version of Stripe that can run with 5.5 Php ?
Thanks a lot !
Clementine
@fullysupportedphil – PHP 5.5.9 is the max version on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and it’s almost certainly never going to go up to 5.6. So everyone on that platform (which is a lot of users) is hitting problems with this release.
I’m going to hit it again because I need to move to WooCommerce 3 and I don’t want to because I can’t install your Stripe compatibility fixes for WooCommerce 3 and I don’t want to risk breaking things.
What is it that is so special about v5.6 vs v5.5.9 that is so important in your code? Do you really need to break compatibility?
WordPress is great for allowing backwards compatibility, it’s one of the things that makes WordPress so inclusive, yet you’re breaking that.
Please, please re-consider the need to break compatibility at least until Ubuntu 14.04 is end of life.
