Minimum supported wooCommerce version

    I have a site stuck on an old version of wooCommerce. The client would like to implement stripe payment gateway but I’m not sure what the minimum supported version of wooCommerce is.

    Could you let me know?

    Thank you for contacting Woo support.

    Could you tell which WooCommerce version are you using on your site?

    We always recommend using the latest versions of plugins and WordPress core.
    This improves overall performance and avoids all known bugs.
    More importantly, it secures your website from potential attacks.

    The security issues and exploits that are patched in the latest versions become public information.
    Therefore using an older version is a security risk for your client.
    Their site can be targeted and known exploits can be used to attack the site.

    Having said that, if you still want to proceed with using an older version, you can check the releases on this GitHub page. I recommend not going for too old version as it might cause functionality issues.

    Thanks Zubair.

    It’s version 5.7.2. There’s a load of custom code from previous developer that breaks if you update it, not ideal! All other WooCommerce installs I manage are kept up to date.

    I’m working with them to get it updated but it’s not going to be a quick fix unfortunately so need to work with it in the current state for time being.

    I took a look at the GitHub but it didn’t indicate which WooCommerce version was supported. Will it likely be a case of trial & error?

    I did some research and was not able to confirm this information, so it seems that it will indeed be a case of trial & error.
    Be sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. You can ask your host for backup functionality or you can consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, you will be able to restore it.

    I tried testing on my website by rolling back to Woo 5.7.2, but got a critical error, as this is a quite old version.

    I understand that updating everything to be compatible with the most recent version is complicated, and I hope you can do it without any issues 🙂
