We are having issues with clients no being able to use plugins that make calls to the mailchimp API. We have opened ports 80 & 443 but we have been unable to determine a cause of the issue. Whenever I enter an API for an account I get the following error…

Uh-oh, we were unable to verify your API Key. Please check them and try again!
The server said:Could not connect (ERR : )

I have no ERR code so I have no idea what is causing the issue, any advice would be appreciated. I am testing on a brand new install of WP.

  • Hey Adam,

Thanks for posting. That definitely sounds a bit odd, especially with the error message missing. Can you confirm if your plugin is up-to-date, and also whether there are any other active plugins on your installation? If so, can you try disabling the other plugins to see if this resolves the issue?

If it is in fact an issue with the local install, it’s tough for to troubleshoot the specifics of the environment from our end, but I’d be happy to help in trying to isolate the issue. Can you send us an email at mailchimptk[at]gmail.com with just your MailChimp account’s username? No passwords please. I can then try using the API key on your account to try and connect through my local setup, and confirm that the MailChimp side of things is working just fine. When you do send the email, please make a post here notifying me that you have. That way I’ll be notified and can get back to ya sooner. Thanks!
