Missing field “position” in breadcrumb itemListElement
-
Hi everyone,
Since yesterday I’m getting a persistent breadcrumb schema error in Google Search Console that I can’t seem to resolve. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction!
The Issue: Google Search Console is reporting: Missing field “position” (in “itemListElement”)
What I’ve checked:
- The error shows up in Google’s Rich Results Test: https://search.google.com/test/rich-results/result?id=k5Rw06xi4nxK4gRkQKoeJg when I inspect the URL but doesn’t appear when I inspect the source code itself (view-source:https://cjtranslations.com/shakespeare-legal/topics/betrayal/)
- Interestingly, Schema.org validator shows no issues: https://validator.schema.org/?hl=en-US#url=https%3A%2F%2Fcjtranslations.com%2Fshakespeare-legal%2Ftopics%2Fbetrayal%2F
What I’ve tried:
- Made sure there’s anchor text for the Homepage in Yoast’s breadcrumb settings
- Even tried disabling breadcrumbs completely in Yoast settings, but the error persists
My setup:
- Yoast SEO Version 25.3.1 (free version)
- WordPress 6.8.1
- The site is built using Avada v7.12.1.
The above makes me think there might be something specific about how Yoast generates the breadcrumb schema that Google’s crawler doesn’t like.
Any ideas on what might be causing Google to throw this error or how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help
