This does not seem to work unless you have an API configured but you give no information on where to get that ID. I guessed it was the Google Maps API but it still does not work after I entered it so what is this API?

We are working on the documentation, It will be published hopefully within next 24-48 horus and it will need Google Place API to work.

You can create Place API from https://developers.google.com/places/web-service/

and enable all place type categories for BuddyPress Check-in plugin setting in which you want to post activities.

@venutius we have updated the plugin and I hope it will be better than initial release, it will also open the map in google maps for you check-in positions. We will welcome your feedback on them or any suggestion to improve plugin functionality. In our coming updates, we are working on saving places in a separate tab which members have visited or planning to visit.
