Missing Labels in WP Admin Page

I noticed recently that my WP Admin Page had no labels – only icons that show the labels when I hover over them with the mouse. This makes it extremely difficult to move to a specific menu item quickly and I cannot figure out what causes this strange behavior.

Can someone please help me out here? I am not clued up with WordPress codes etc and would therefore need advice in layman’s language. Here is a snapshot of what my admin page look like. Notice the absence of any labels or wording on the left hand side.
