I’ve discovered that for the past few weeks the CAPTCHA has stopped appearing on all of my comment reply forms. This is causing all reply comment submission attempts to automatically fail. New, top level comments are still loading the CAPTCHA and working, but nobody can reply to any of them.

Inspecting the source code shows the CAPTCHA is there, but for some reason it has “display:none” styled to it on all the replys. Here’s a screenshot showing this.

To debug, I set “Appearance Mode: Always” but it’s still hidden with “display:none”. I also deactivated all Advanced, Whitelist, and Failsafe settings. I initially had the “defer scripts” and “performance plugin compatibility” options enabled, so turning them off didn’t help. I do have “AJAX comments form” option still enabled. If I disable it, then I break both “reply” and “new” comments.

Lastly, I checked “Enable debug logging of Turnstile form submission events.” but no log seems to be appearing despite all the test comments I’ve made this hour.

I am using plain WordPress comments. I also have another Turnstile plugin (Gravity Forms Cloudflare Turnstile Add-On version 1.50) that I use just for Gravity Forms. I am only trying to use this Simple CAPTCHA plugin for my comments and that’s it. I am also running WP Rocket and am happy to tweak any suggested settings there.

Thanks for any help with this!
