What doesn’t work exactly, can you be more specific?
Do you have a website with 3.1.2 live so I can check as it’s impossible for me to say without having something to look at.
I very, very much doubt you would have to restart apache for a simple plugin upgrade.

The menu button was not visible on the menu bar in the mobile version of the website.
We now have 2.8.8 version with the menu button visible. All the pages needs to be purged from the cache to display the button there.
The site is now working fine.
Now that we have downgraded the plugin manually, would it update automatically?
Is there a option to restrict automatic plugin upgrades?

It will only upgrade if you tell it too. I would like to find the cause of the issue though so you can upgrade without issue.
Are you able to provide a dev site or similar with the new version installed?

Thanks Peter, we dont have a dev site.
We are seeing a issue though. The items in the menu are going on to two lines and overlapping with other items.
You can have a look at idmworks.com on mobile and click the button there.
Also a search box is appearing there which was not there earlier

Your menu item titles have line breaks in them (look at the code and you will see the br tags in there).
In regards that search box, that is not coming from my plugin. Do you have any other plugins or something in your theme that deals with search or adds search boxes in?
