Mobile theme support plugin writing

Hi, how can I write a plugin extension to support a generic mobile theme?

My goal is check if we are using a mobile theme, and then get/set cached files inside another folder in order to have two different cache, one for the desktop theme and one for the mobile one.

Could you point me to some documentation or example?
