Interesting. Bit scary with so much code but it’s definitely going in the right direction. I would just have to work out how to change the rest from just titles to excerpt. 🙂

I am sorry, I forgot to mention that you should consider creating a Child Theme, otherwise you risk losing all your customizations when you next update your theme.
In addition, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

Is it possible to disable the theme update?
Creating a child theme really isn’t that hard. It took me about 5 minutes the first time and I haven’t coded in years. Just follow the steps. It’ll make your life so much easier!
I would not suggest disabling theme updates as there are often useful bugfixes.

Thanks Hannah, maybe I will take the plunge finally. Can you tell me if you have specific plugin in mind. There is quire a few out there and wonder which would be safest while having advanced options for later modifications.

No, I don’t have any specific plug-ins in mind, as I’m not sure which ones you have. I would suggest disable them all and see if the issue is gone. If it is not gone, then you know it is not related to plugins and you can enable them all again. If the issue is gone, then turn on the plug-ins one by one, testing after each until you find out which one causes the issue to return.
