Modifying RSS feeds

I’d like to modify the feeds that go out to append such things as a link to make comment, a link to email the URL of the post, etc.

Which file do I modify? Is there any problem using the same tags/templates I’d use in, say, index.php — i.e. are there special tags I must use for feeds?
