I’m not able to reproduce your problem. I put “http://google.com” in the URL field and I put <a href="http://google.com">Google</a> in the Content field and the text was retained.
Are you on the latest version of the plugin and wordpress? What version of php? I think it’s unlikely this problem is due to the plugin.
