Hi svehex,
Could you elaborate on what you mean by “their secret field”?
Right now, there are various ways to prevent bots from subscribing.
1) Install the BWS Captcha plugin and include {captcha} in your form mark-up, where you want the CAPTCHA field to appear.
2) Enable double opt-in. This really should stop most bots from subscribing, as no bot will click the confirmation link.
3) Install the Goodbye Captcha plugin which offer an integration with MailChimp for WordPress. This way you don’t even have to show a CAPTCHA in your sign-up form.
Hope that helps!
They have a honeypot field in their embed forms now. which is meant to catch optin spam. For me unfortunately that is not enough. So I will add captcha as well.
The ones signing up for my list now are bypassing double optin and the honeypot.
Hi svehex,
Are you sure you’re asking questions in the right place?
I’ve seen you’re using Easy MailChimp Forms for your site which is a totally different plugin. That plugin has nothing to do with MailChimp for WordPress created by Danny van Kooten.
I gave up and switched to that plugin. Now I’m giving that one up because of the load, and doing my own forms with a required text field.
