• I recently had to clean up some malware on my sites. (Bluehost is my host.) Got two subdomains and my primary back up and running before the Thanksgiving holiday. Everything works fine, I delete inactive plug ins, themes, etc etc. Install a malaware plug in, etc. It runs fine for a few days. Now my two subdomains won’t load. They time out. My primary domain is fine. A CSR says I need to optimize mysql databases…but I think it’s too strange that BOTH subdomains go down at the same time? I try re-loading WordPress, thinking I would do a clean install. However, I get an error message on my cPanel when I try to do that….it says there’s a DNS error and to contact customer support. (I did.) I’m not a “computer guy”…just a hobbyist. Anyone have any ideas? Anything I can check? I’m stumped since I can’t even do a clean install.

  • Hello Wb0rurark,

Sorry for the problem with subdomains not loading. Generally, when I think subdomain, I’m thinking of something like subdomain.maindomain.com, or maindomain.com/subdomain. In either case, if you have established a subdomain to be recognized on the internet, then it needs to have DNS entries AND it’s typically under a primary or main domain. We would need to see the domain names in order to determine if we can see the DNS entries on the internet (using tools like DIG). You should also consider the possibility that there is an error in the DNS. I work in a hosting service environment and it is not unheard of for specific domains to have DNS issues that require the DNS to be “re-pushed” to the internet. This would need to be corrected by the host.

I hope this helps to clarify the issue. Provide us a little information about your site and we can try to look at it here. Otherwise, please contact your host’s support team to look into the DNS issues.

    Kindest regards,
    Arnel C.
