    Hello.

I know i already asked for this feature via private mail, but i just want to ask again….

After importing almost all of my movies my media library has more than 1300 files which makes it difficult and incredible slow when adding any file (not movie related) to a new post for example.

Why not moving all “your” files into a subfolder under UPLOADS (as this plugin does as well). This won’t cause a security issue but will help all the admins and editor out there…..

Idea: with the next update bring also a migration tool which will create the folder, move all the files and changes all relations in the database….

    Thanks

  • Hi kjoussen,

I thought about it after we talked in private, and though the idea itself is good I thinnk it’s a bit more complicated than just moving files. It’s not simply a question of creating a new folder, it also means rewriting the upload process to use that folder, update internal functions to get/built images paths/URLs, etc. In any case that’s not something I’ll be able to do for a while if I look at what’s already planned − and taking way too much time already… − on the next two versions in development…

The kicker is that, without proper coding, it will not solve your slowness issue: if the files are moved to another folder but still loaded with the other, it’ll still be slow. I’ll run some tests to see if there can be a way to prevent movie images/posters to be loaded on other posts; it may be as good a (simpler) solution 🙂

    I see and understand.

What i do not know is how the mentioned gallery-plugin is avoiding showing its files in the “normal” media-library…..

However, i found a small plugin which brings categories to media files and with this i can select which category of file i want to see when adding a post or page.

At least it is a workaroung for my personal problem.

Thanks anyway and have a nice weekend.

WordPress has plenty of filters and techniques to do this, I have a few in mind, but I’ll take a look at that plugin, see how it does it. Would be a useful option anyway!
