Move navigation menu right

Hi, I have removed the search box from the homepage and would like to move the navigation menu to the right so that it aligns with my logo. I am very new to wordpress. I have created a style.css file in my child theme and have copied the header file straight into the child theme as well. I have tried lots of things with both but cannot get it to move across… sometimes my code appears on the actual website so I think I must be doing something very basic wrong!!
Step by step suggestions would be very much appreciated, thankyou
