moving from root

So i tried following this guide http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

I understand everything up to where it says copy (don’t Move)
I can’t copy my only option is to move no copy (using winSCP, Filezila)
so i download a copy and then uploaded it to the /root. I edit the header file to point to the proper directory. when you go to http://www.abcdefg.com/wp you get errors

when you try to log in to WP you get errors that the head.php file isn’t there. i know its there i can see it.

I would like WordPress to open after a static front index/home page.
