• Hello,

First of all, I am new to WP, this forum and my knowledge is quiet limited. Therefore my apologize if there are already similar topics in this forum.
I need your recommendations regarding which multi-language plugin I should choose !

I have a Jupiter Website v.4.4.2 and I would like to make a second language by using a subfolder. I understand that the best option would be a multi-language plugin. I’ve tried to find some information on google about those plugins and basically the recommendations are Polylang, WPML and qTranslate-x.

So far I have tried the first two as they are for free:
Polylang: my website breaks immediately. In particular all saved theme options disappear. No way to fix it.
qTranslate-X: woks, but I am not sure how to combine it with SEO metas. Right now I am using Yoast. I have seen that there is a special plugin Yoast SEO & qTranslate-X but it looks like not really working.
WPML: I have heard that it is still the best option for multi-language sites. However it can have some negative impact in the page loading speed, besides it is really expensive.

I really would appreciate some help and options. Is it really worth to purchase WPML? From my point of view the functions from qTranslate are very limited. I also don’t know if it is possible to remove the language flags in the dropdown menu. If I use qTranslate, is there maybe another SEO plugin similar to Yoast which I could use?

    My website is http://www.enatam.com/

    Thanks in advance!

I use WPML and in my opinion, it’s totally worth it. If you find it to be slow, please delete all unnecessary strings.

Well, I am using qTranslate-X, it is still under development. If you are not a big fan of PHP development, then you probably better to go with WPML.

The beauty of qTX is that it is designed to provide an opportunity to be custom-integrated with any arbitrary theme or plugin, although the integration itself may appear to be tricky to a user with limited knowledge of PHP.

Good thing that its development team provides a paid support to do integration for PHP-inexperienced users, for the price less than the cost of WPML. They can afford to do so, because the work done then becomes available to everybody else in the community. And, yes, it is a project driven by a community, open source, which you can research for fun and improve as you wish.

There is no a unique “correct way” to develop an ML plugin, it all depends on what you need and what is important to you. QTX is good for a site with a couple of languages which are maintained by one person, or by a little group of people, who are bilingual, and who do translations themselves. Then you benefit from Language Switching Buttons. If you got 40 languages with a big team of translators, who do not talk to each other on daily basis, then WPML is probably a better choice, as those people will ever hardly use LSB.

Yes, Yoast has gained a lot of problems with QTX, after they severely re-designed their interface. People reported that All in One SEO Pack works satisfiable, if you do not mind using Raw Multilingual entries in some fields. However, Yost is not going to stay broken forever, someone within the community will eventually update the Yoast integrating plugin to work again.

Those are my two cents 🙂
