Multi Thumb Layout

I have been thinking about this off and on for quite a while now and can’t quite figure a simple way to do it. I would like my main page to display 4 thumbs in total for each post that they link to. These would be the Featured Image (Simple enough) but these posts all have an additional 10 thumbs or so per so I would like to have a large Featured image on the top then have 3 more smaller images below the featured from the same post (so 4 total)

I have thought about trying the “get_the_image” Plugin by Justin Tadlock unless someone could recommend a simple way to do this because I have never actually used the plugin before.

Any ideas?
