Unfortunately “Featured Posts” section can be setup only in Customizer and apparently the strings from Customizer don’t show up in string to translation in Polylang.
There is some workaround which requires some changes in theme file and it only works when homepage is set as static page. That means you won’t be able to display blog feed (recent posts) section cause static homepage don’t have this section build in. I’m not sure if this is what you want.

I’m having the same problem. Looks like the only way is to remove that “Featured Posts/Projects” section and keep only the slider, which means I have to list all of the 50 projects in the front page (unlimited) since I need them all in the subpages under each categories. Really a problem for bilingual contents.
