• Guys, quick question. The site I’ve just begun to work on https://webdevagency.wordpress.com/ (which by the way is on wordpress.com) needs to have multilingual support, in the sense that the site is in english and everyone needs to see the english version except for italy, which will have the italian version ( the site itself is the same it’s just the language of the text that should be different). How feasible is that? Also, I know that ww.wp.xz.cn doesn’t support plugins, so if this is possible and achieved through a plugin, does it mean that I have to go for a self-installed version of wordpress?
    thanks

  • There is a multilingual plugin called WPML available at https://wpml.org/ costs 30usd or so though.

OK still in the process of sorting out the self-installation of word press on the server, however, about this plugin, I don’t really need the translation if that makes sense, I’ll handle it myself, but all I need is to get one version or another to show up depending on where the user browse the site from. Can this be done without plugin in some other way? I’m sure somebody must have done it already

I’d been thinking about this plug in business and realized that I may not need one because I don’t need/want the site to be automatically translated, in fact I will be writing the text in the two languages of my choice (english and italian) all I need is:
1)either one way to serve the content in italian when traffic comes from italy and english where it comes from anywhere else
2)or serving the english content regardless and have a way to give the user the choice (perhaps a switch of some kind) to select the alternative language.
    Is this achievable without plugin?
The one you suggested is great but it seems to have a lot of nice things that I will never need to use, that’s why I’m exploring different options.
    Any other idea?
    thanks
