Multiple authors with 1 User Profile
-
I am currently migrating a third party web database management system into a WP 1.5 Strayhorn site (15,000 pages+), and have hit a brick wall in terms of the migration of authors. Post and category migration has been completed (with initial tests on WP 1.2.2 and further testing on 1.5), it’s just this last issue that’s holding me back..
Currently there is 1 user inside the system who publishes not only their material, but also material of numerous other people (100+ people, possibly more).
WordPress, from my understanding of it, needs a unique author/account in the backend (the Authors and User subpanel), to have a different author name in the frontend (through the use of preferred identity, afaics).
The nickname field, under wp_authors, seems too limited for my needs, as I will need to differentiate between each ‘author’ of the article, irrespective of the 1 ‘publisher’ for the entire site.
What I want is the ‘author’ of the article to remain post-migration to Strayhorn so that WP can display it in the front end, whilst still only having 1 dedicated ‘publishing’ (i.e. 1 User Profile) account in the backend.
Does anyone have any ideas / hacks or concepts which might help speed up migration and still keep the relevant distinction I’m looking for ?
