Multiple categories result in multiple notifications
-
I don’t see how to do what I want with your tool. I have a blog with multiple categories of posts, and I’d like subscribers to select which categories they want to receive notifications about. I see I can set up a separate “list” for each category, but then to send out notifications only to those subscribers who selected that category, I have to create a separate campaign for each list.
This is a lot of work to set up, and it’s hard to maintain, since if I change something about the newsletter template I have to make a corresponding change in several newsletters, and if I add a category I have to create another list and another campaign also.
That’s possible to do, of course. It seems like more work than I should have to do for this very common use case, but whatever.
The real problem comes when I do a post that I want to assign to multiple categories. If I do this, subscribers who have selected multiple lists when filling in the form, may receive multiple copies of the notification about the post. This is obviously not what they would want.
Is there not a way to have ONE LIST and define a categories field on the form, and calculate the audience for the mailing to exclude those users who have not elected to receive any of the categories associated with that post? This would avoid the problem of users receiving duplicate notifications, and also would be much easier to administer.

Hi @tylertork,
Thank you for contacting us.
Below is my response to your concern.
1) Is there not a way to have ONE LIST and define a categories field on the form, and calculate the audience for the mailing to exclude those users who have not elected to receive any of the categories associated with that post? This would avoid the problem of users receiving duplicate notifications, and also would be much easier to administer.
Ans) In the current setup, it is not possible to have a single list with a categories field on the form. However, we have noted this feature request. If multiple users express the same need, we will consider adding it to a future release of the plugin.Regarding the duplicate notifications stemming from multiple categories, we will investigate possible solutions within the plugin. We will keep you updated as soon as possible.
Hope this helps!
Please let us know if you have any further questions.

You said you were looking into a solution for the multiple notifications problem, and you didn’t report back here on your findings, so I don’t consider the issue closed. Let’s leave it open until you either address the problem or can state that you don’t intend to fix it. Thanks.
Hi @tylertork,
Hope you are doing well!
Regarding your concern, when you create multiple categories and assign them to one post, there may be subscribers who are subscribed to multiple categories.
This can lead to these subscribers receiving duplicate email notifications. In our new release 5.7.58, we have addressed this issue.
Subscribers who are signed up for multiple categories will no longer receive duplicate or multiple emails.
Please update the plugin to the latest version and confirm if your queries are resolved. If not, we will investigate further.
Waiting for your input!
