Multiple H1 Warning and “Title” Issues
-
Recently the Yoast plugin started warning about pages that are said to have multiple H1s. In the pages, there was one H1 in the content box itself – but only one H1. I switched that first H1 (the first major heading) to H2 thinking that somehow the Title of the page was being counted as an H1. When I view source, the title is inside <title> and there are now only H2s in the View Source code. No H1s are designated. There are many many prior support posts about this but the responses don’t seem clear to me. Is the <title> in fact an H1 just labeled differently as a title in the source? Or should the content of the post (inside the Editor box) also have an H1? Right now the page shows no H1s. When View Source is used, should someone see an H1 or not? If not, is it because <title> is deemed to be the equivalent of an H1?
The prior responses to many support posts on this were confusing. If the <title> is counted as an H1 then no code inside the box would ever be able to be an H1 without triggering the Multiple H1 warning. Please advise.
