• When I log into my web host I can see that there are duplicates (or sometime 5) of the same photo. The photos are of different sizes. This obviously takes up a lot of space, which costs money, so I want to delete the duplicates. The problem is that I don’t know which one. I tested deleting one out of 5 of the same photo and the photo disappeared from the blog, which I didn’t want. I have hundreds of blog posts so I can’t really sit and manually attach a photo to each blog post again. On the blog there’s no duplicates.

Any ideas how this happened and what I can do about it? Is there a way of seeing which one of the photos is attached to a post?

  • This is default WordPress behavior. When you upload a picture, WP creates thumbnail images in several sizes. It then uses a thumbnail to display the picture when only a small image is needed (such as in an excerpt).

This actually saves bandwidth and server overhead, which your webhost also charges you for. If storage is an issue, you may need to upgrade your hosting plan or change to a different host.
