UM can only handle 1 role but you can add multiple roles with another plugin. UM uses a primary role for the role settings. That’s why there’s a Priority Number in the User Role settings so that it makes a role a Primary Role.

If I want to assign an existing user profile to a WordPress role AND a UM role (i.e. not multiple UM roles), do I need a plugin as well? If so, can you recommend one?

@zantafio If you go inside each existing user profile you can add 2 roles (1 WP and 1 UM role) to any user. Just not from the table view of all users.
Users -> Edit (underneath of the users’ username)
Will basically lead you to the same screen as you see when you create a user.

PS. For having multiple UM roles i’ve installed a plugin called ‘Members’ from ‘MemberPress’. Looks like it works good with all UM restrictions i have on pages and Gutenberg blocks.
