Multisite related question

If we implement this on the main site of our multisite network to broadcast posts to subdomains, how does the Broadcast plugin work?

Which of the following is true?

1) when broadcasting, the plugin creates a copy of the post into the database of the target subdomain,

Or

2) the post is stored in the database in the main site. The plugin allows each subdomain to query from the same database in the main site.
