The feature with multi select dropdown will be added in future updates.
But for the moment you can optionally use Folding option for a checkbox filter which gives you:
– ability to select multiple filter terms
– does not require too many space as dropdown
And as option you can also limit height of the checkboxes/radio buttons/labels filters container in Filter -> Settings.

This worked great however, I can’t seem to get the folding option to close when clicking outside the filter – I have tried multiple times with jQuery / Javascript – I see the classes wpc-closed and wpc-opened 2 dom elements – DO you have a quick solution?

This can be achieved by extra coding, but unfortunately I can’t help you with this. You have to ask a developer to help you.
