I’m curious as to why this happened too. I noticed that the check box under discussion had the “allow comments” turned off. I had to make sure the check box is checked. Now I am seeing how many posts have comments turned off. Doesn’t make sense why this happened as discussion wasn’t even enabled in my screen options.
I will also say that you need to make sure Settings -> Discussion Settings -> “Allow people to post comments on new articles ” has the check box. For some reason I didn’t, not sure when that was changed or how.
edit – I want to note that the comments were disabled 5/16. So wonder if that is the same for anyone else.
But my settings are ok, people can comment and their new comments are visible. The older ones are not…
Make sure the setting “Automatically close comments on articles older than __ days” is not checked.
Under Settings -> Discussion.
if that is not the problem, then hopefully someone else can provide a working solution.
