I have posted one sitemap that was created by Yoast on Google Search Console and there are zero discovered URLs. I also when I click on it on Google Search console it doesn’t has any child Sitemaps.

My question, can i add the main sitemap “sitemap_index.xml” and the child sitemaps at the same time?

    Hello @sa5awii92

Thanks for reaching out about your sitemaps again.

We only recommend that you submit the sitemap index, /sitemap_index.xml/. I understand the sitemap index reports 0 discovered URLs. Please be patient for a while as it may take some time. Here’s a guide to submitting your sitemap – https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/

I have been waiting for a long while and still not showing any discovered URLs nor child sitemaps

    Hey @sa5awii92,

    Thank you for your reply.

Can you share a link to the sitemap/site with us so we can check a few things? It can take a while for Google to get to the sitemap and discover its content, especially when it’s a huge sitemap with a lot of content.

    Hello @sa5awii92

We have examined your XML sitemap, and there’s nothing technically wrong with it. Why Google Search Console reports no URLs discovered is still strange.

Although, your robots.txt file is not the new default we recommend. The sitemap link in the file uses the wrong protocol – HTTP instead of HTTPS; it’s unclear if this could cause unexpected behavior but see this guide – https://yoast.com/ultimate-guide-robots-txt/.

If no URLs are still discovered, reach out on the Google Search Central Help Community

    Thank you for reply.

I updated my robots.txt file as required.

I also posted on Google Search Console and no one knows why it doesn’t appear as it should be.

@sa5awii92 Thanks for your reply and confirming that the robots.txt is now updated with the correct URL.

Google Search Console will sometimes show the number of discovered URLs that it finds in the specific sitemap that was submitted, but not show the number it discovers on the child sitemaps that the sitemap_index.xml lists, and Google subsequently crawls.

According to Google, the sitemap being reported with 0 URLs discovered doesn’t necessarily indicate a problem. You can read more about this here. Most probably, Google needs some time to process the sitemap. And do keep in mind that Google Search Console reports are not real-time.

So we would like to suggest allowing some time for Google to process the sitemap. For a speedier resolution, you could delete the sitemap in Google Search Console and resubmit it again. Sometimes, it helps to fix the 0 discovered URLs notice faster.

    Thank you for your reply.

I  deleted the sitemap in Google Search Console and resubmitted it again 3 days ago and still nothing new.

I used to have many discovered URLs and this just happened suddenly.

The child sitemaps still not appearing in the main sitemap.

According to the article you sent https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/18717501?hl=en many users have the same error.

    @sa5awii92

We understand that Google Search Console still shows 0 discovered URLs in the sitemap report. We inspected the sitemap index as well as the different sub-sitemaps and confirmed that they’re technically correct. We also checked your robots.txt file and verified that there aren’t any directives blocking search engines from crawling your website or sitemaps. Additionally, we searched for your website on Google and observed that your latest articles do appear in the search results. See attached screenshot for reference.

As the sitemap is technically correct and as long as you’re seeing in Google Search Console the message “Sitemap index processed successfully“, we’d recommend you give Google more time to update the report and the number of discovered URLs. If the report doesn’t get updated after a few days, you may consider contacting Google for further assistance by making a post on their forum here https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/new?hl=en. They should be able to provide you with additional information as to why the sitemap report still shows 0 discovered URLs.

I posted on Google community a question and I got a reply from an expert.

    Please check this image: https://ibb.co/YBGvGzT

    The post I shared: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/193638050

He told me that ” This is thin content website – there are coupons codes with fulll adsense banners and affiliate links. You dont sell these products you only redirect users via ref links. And such website won;t rank in the futre because of no added value for customers.”

I don’t know if this is related to the sitemap and the discovered URLs or not.

Please could you check from your side?

@sa5awii92 Those fact seems to be quite related, as outlined by experts, to why Google didn’t prefer to crawl and show most of the URLs from your website under discovered URLs report and search results as well.

You can reference the recently published post quoting Google experts’ opinions in this regard here.

Gary explained, “A sitemap file, as defined by sitemaps.org, is a great way to tell search engines about your site’s URLs. But that’s where it ends: you tell Steve to read your sitemap, but if Steve doesn’t trust your site will delight users, it won’t bother reading your sitemap.”

    What next?

Optimizing your content will help discover your website in search engines and increase organic traffic and earn higher rankings in the search results. Please refer to this definitive guide and start optimizing with the following suggestions:

If the above suggestions have not resulted in higher rankings, we recommend hiring a local SEO consultancy company.

    Thank you for your reply.

Can it be the reason even if I don’t have any issue in the Manual Action on Google Search Console?

Many pages have less than 100 words in the description not the blog.
