The next backup, and all subsequent backups, failed with the error messages in my original post.
The MySQL server on my site says it has been running continuously for 48 days – so it doesn’t seem like the problem that started after 8/31 could be from a change to the MySQL server on my site.
or is PHP update or mysql client liberyes?
