    Hi Tom:

I am building a site in WordPress that will be sitting on a custom MySQL DB that is made up of many related tables.

I need a log in / user authentication process that sits on my own users table in MySQL….NOT the standard WordPress table…..so….it seems that your Plug In does exactly that.

But- I am a very novice developer, so I cannot be sure of anything at this point. Can you confirm that indeed I can continue to build a registration form around my custom MySQL users table, and that your Plug In will then sync it up with the WordPress out-of-the-box table, so I can use conventional WordPress user log in plug ins as they were intended to be used?

    Thanks!!

    Hi there,

If I understand you correctly – yes, this is exactly what the plugin is made for.

I would encourage you to have a good read through of the main plugin page particularly the “FUNCTIONALITY WARNINGS AND LIMITATIONS” section just to make sure this works with your user flow.

If you need minor modifications I’m happy to look into adding basic additions for you.

If you have any issues getting this setup please feel free to get back to me. In fact – I’d even love to hear back if you got it all set up and working ok 🙂

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Hi Tom:

Well that was a QUICK reply….thanks.

As I said, I am really new to this. I have a database background, and am somewhat technical, but I certainly am in uncharted territory regarding my comfort zone.

I am very surprised that there is really not anything else like this out there…at least based on a search for user-friendly WordPress plug ins. It is extremely limiting for someone who wants to build a website that is sitting on a customized back-end to be stuck with the WordPress data sets. The data elements that I need to save to build out a user profile that meets my site’s needs go well beyond what WordPress provides.

I started playing with your Plug In, but am getting stuck. I would certainly value a chance to speak with you so I can tell you more about my needs, and where I need help with getting your plug in set up. Maybe this will catalyze some ideas on your side in the event that you are looking to build out more tools.

I look forward to hearing from you.

You caught me at the right time 🙂

More than happy to help. The basic user storage of WordPress is pretty basic. You can add your own meta data to users and customise how this appears in the admin section so you can grow this however you like.

WordPress originated as simply a blogging platform and although it is growing in functionality the main plan for WordPress I believe is to keep it relatively light and allow plugins to add functionality specific to site needs.

However, It sounds like you’re struggling to find a plugin to do what you want it to do.

I would love to talk to you over the phone about your requirements as this as it’d be quicker, but I’m not allowed to give you my contact information. If you were to write your e-mail in a message here, it would come through to me in an e-mail but the WordPress team would pretty quickly redact it from this forum as it is not allowed.

If you would like to tell me more about what your requirements are I’d be happy to advise.

    Thanks,

    Tom
