RE: I did a Google search for one of our pages. The result title had a name appended to the front. It also displayed a custom URL that I didn’t create.

Looking at the site, I see that on several pages like this one:

You have embedded a Connections Directory in the “Staff” sidebar of the page. If you click on any of the Entry names in the Directory, the page will refresh display just that Entry details in the “Staff” sidebar.

The links will be crawled and index by Google given enough time.

I suspect on this page, the one you are asking about:

At some point, it may have had a Connections Directory, which had Micheal B permalink, which was indexed by Google. As it is no longer present, Google will, at some point, remove that link from their index.

I can add /name/first-last to any of our site’s URLs and get a page with the person’s name appended, as long as that person exists in Connections directory. … Any clue what could be causing this?

By manually adding /name/first-last, you are forcing/tricking Connections into thinking that a Connections Entry detail/profile page will be displayed, which in turn triggers the Yoast SEO integration features to be processed.

Under normal usage, such a scenario would not occur.

RE: Is there a way to turn off this “feature”?

I can look into adding an additional check to prevent “tricking” Connections in this manner.

I hope this answers your questions thoroughly. Let me know.

That makes complete sense. We use Elementor templates. One template has a Connections directory in the sidebar. It is removed from pages that it is not needed.

An option to prevent this behavior would be great.

    Thanks for the information!

Well, it will not be an option/ setting, just an internal check to help prevent manually forcing Connections to do something it would not under normal operation.
