Couldn’t get page links to show on homepage

Couldn’t get page links to show on homepage – http://www.100buckhouseraffle.com. A forum person recommended putting the following into my header – <? wp_list_pages(); ?>. Didn’t work there because it listed pages from top to bottom so i put it in my sidebar. almost works, but there’s a bullet with the word ‘pages’ at the top of the list of page links. I need to get rid of the ‘pages’, or use some other method of getting my pagelinks either in the header or sidebar.

Also, I need to understand why this template ahren ahimsa doesn’t automatically put the links in my pages.

I’ve spent 2 days on this problem and am thankful for any help that could be given.
