For several months, we haven’t gotten the prompt to update the database and have to do it manually in the Tools section. Is there a way to make it show again?

  • Hi @henrybaum,

Welcome to the WooCommerce forum, and thank you for reaching out! I understand you’re not seeing the usual prompt to update the WooCommerce database and have had to do it manually via the Tools section. That’s certainly not ideal if you’re looking to stay on top of updates smoothly.

To clarify, was the update notice previously showing as expected and then suddenly stopped, or has it never appeared since a particular version or site change?

The prompt typically appears when WooCommerce detects that the database version doesn’t match the plugin version. If the notice isn’t showing up, it could be due to caching, a delay in version comparison, or a dismissed admin notice.

    Here’s what you can check:

    1. Verify the version mismatch: Go to WooCommerce → Status and check the WooCommerce version and Database version. If they match, the prompt won’t appear by design.
    2. Clear transients and cache: In WooCommerce → Status → Tools, try clearing transients and regenerating the lookup tables.
    3. Force a database update prompt: If you’re comfortable doing so, you can temporarily downgrade the woocommerce_db_version in your site’s database (via phpMyAdmin or similar) under the wp_options table. This will trick WooCommerce into thinking an update is needed and show the prompt again. Be cautious with this and always back up your database first.

If you’d like to share your System Status Report, I’ll be happy to take a closer look for anything unusual. You can copy it from WooCommerce → Status and paste it at https://pastebin.com or https://gist.github.com, then link it here.

Let me know how you’d like to proceed!

The notices suddenly stopped – when an update is definitely necessary. I’ll try clearing transients next time there’s an update and see if it helps.

    Hi @henrybaum,

Thanks for the update! That sounds like a good plan; clearing transients the next time an update is available might help trigger the database update notice properly. Please do keep an eye on it, and let us know how it goes when the next update rolls out.

For now, I’ll go ahead and mark this thread as resolved. If anything else comes up, don’t hesitate to reply here or start a new thread; we’re always happy to help.

And if WooCommerce has been useful for your store and you appreciate the support you have received, we’d truly appreciate it if you could leave us a quick review here:  https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/plugin/woocommerce/reviews/#new-post

    Thanks again and take care!
