Nesting static page underneath a dynamic(posts) page

Hi,

I’m not sure if this is mentioned anywhere but I’ve searched and can’t seem to see anything regarding this behavior. Not sure if its a bug or by design…

In my site, I have a News page which is what I’ve assigned to be the posts page in Settings->Reading->Posts Page option. I’ve created a static page and assigned the parent to be the News page. When I try to access the page, I get “Page not Found – Sorry you are looking for something that isn’t here”.

Is it just impossible to nest a static page underneath a dynamic page. I understand that it may take some tricky logic to distinguish whether the page requested is a post or a page(even though internally I know they are both really posts – but of different types), but surely its not impossible.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue?
