I have been using Simple Download Monitor for a few years to password protect pdf downloads.
Sometime during 1/15/2025 the process stopped working, resulting in “network error” or “failed” depending on the browser used.
How do I find the cause?
    Version 3.9.26 is in place

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Is there a paid for support option to resolve this?
I suspected a host issue, like throttling, but they have no answer yet.

This sounds like a host issue. You need to get in contact with your host to find out why are you getting network error messages. You might also want to check the sever log files.

You can also use the Debug Mode in our plugin. This might also provide some more insight into the issue. The following documentation can help.

Thank you for the response. I just restored cPanel options, as I wondered if I had change PHP options that caused the issue. The process is now working, so perhaps related to memcache, memcached or opcache?

Good to know there is a debugging tool, thank you very much.

The problem returned, still no solution from the host. Desiring to provide more information, I used the debug feature, the download failed, but the “View Log File” option leads to a blank page. How do I resolve this?

In the cPanel error log, I find:
    2025-01-17 07:41:05.823319 [NOTICE] [37105] [T0] [85.208.96.211:48710#APVH_store.titanichistoricalsociety.org:443] [STDERR] PHP Warning: Undefined array key “pass_text” in /home/storetitanic/public_html/wp-content/plugins/simple-download-monitor/includes/sdm-download-request-handler.php on line 24\n

Thank you for sharing the error log above. I have changed the support thread back to not resolved. I have submitted a message to the developers to investigate further your findings.

    Kind regards.

Thank you. The cPanel error that you referred is being generated due to the password field having empty value. I will add a fix for it so this warning is not generated. You can ignore that particular warning for now.

The problem still exists, still no solution from the host.

We have applied a fix for this in the latest release of the plugin.
