New Domain, Same Server Questions

Hello everyone,

So we have a migrated wordpress site working on a linux virtual machine at:

myarts-temp.unm.edu We are going to be having campus IT change the DNS entry on the server to myarts.unm.edu Apparently, I’m going to be changing a DNS setting on the virtual server as well, one line of code, and restarting apache, which an IT member is going to walk me through this week.

I’ve moved wordpress from one server to another several times, but I’m wondering what to do here exactly… Do I need to change those two URL / URI settings to myarts.unm.edu before this DNS change happens? Would I be best using the search and replace database script referenced on the moving wordpress article?

Any advice about this process would be most welcome, because we will be setting up future wordpress sites in a similar manner (with -temp url). Thank you!
