New Event Posted Shortcode

Perhaps I missed this somewhere, although i’ve looked on the shortcode page.

I need a shortcode that points to the newest published event.

I’d like to send notification emails to my users for each new event published and would like a link.

@joneiseman can you point me in the right direction?
