New MySQL, error when changing wp-config.php to it

Our old MySQL server was not up to par, so I setup a new server that only runs MySQL. I then used MySQL Administrator to make a backup of a database and restored it on the new server, created a new user on the new server with full rights to the database (i used the same username and password as the user on the old server), and switched the db_host in the wp-config file. After doing so, wordpress cannot log into the database. I have tested the username and passwords from other pc’s using MySQL Administrator and that works fine, but for some reason, this website will not connect. Any advice?
