    Hello,

I hope you’re well. I recently moved to a new host and got a new theme for my blog, Invisibly Me – https://invisiblyme.com/

When publishing posts, they always used to appear immediately on the WP Reader. Since the migration to a new host (who also changed settings, deleted various plugins etc), the post doesn’t appear on the Reader for ages. I then get barely any views and it badly impacts the site. It also doesn’t appear on my blog’s homepage for several hours either. I’ve cleared the cache, doesn’t seem to make any difference and I’m pretty sure it shouldn’t be manually cleared just to publish a post (like I said, never any problems pre-migration, but the new host did delete a few of my plugins, including a caching plugin).

The first time it took nearly 24hrs. I’ve posted the second post since migration yesterday and it took several hours to appear on the main WP Reader, or under InvisiblyMe (https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/53003633) on the reader.

I went back to my host provider about this. They just said that it’s done via Jetpack and on the Jetpack website, it says it can take up to 24hrs to show. I know this is nonsense when I’ve published hundreds of posts previously that have always appeared straight afterwards.

I’ve looked online and on similar queries on the WP forum but I can’t seem to find any relevant solutions. I don’t know what the problem is, whether it’s an RSS feed issue or something else entirely. The whole migration has been a bit of a nightmare and this issue with the Reader is seeming to be a big problem.

I don’t suppose anyone has any ideas?

Many thanks in advance if anyone can help 🙂

I should also add, after migration I found that Jetpack had been disconnected. I reconnected, after a few error messages and painfully slow speeds (not sure what caused those either), so it seems properly connected now. Unsure if there’s something to Jetpack causing this or not. I really have no idea so any thoughts would be hugely appreciated.

    Hi there, @invisiblyme,

Thanks for all the information and for the troubleshooting. I checked your Jetpack connection, and everything seems to be working fine, which is a great place to start.

The feed for your site related to the WordPress.com Reader is up to date and working as expected as far as I can see, which is another good news.

The only glitch that I can see at the moment is a block in the REST API endpoint: https://public-api.wordpress.com/rest/v1/sites/112021170

Could you check with your host about that, so they can clear any block from their end?

Also, can you double-check with your host that everything posts related have been migrated okay? Tags, categories, etc.

Please also note that the Reader has some limitations for sites on a Free plan, while more features are available for Jetpack paid plans:

    https://jetpack.com/support/reader/

Once done this, let me know if you still experience trouble with the WordPress.com Reader, and we’ll check on that. Thanks!

    Hello Stef,

Thank you so much for getting back to me, I really appreciate it. It’s been a bit of a nightmare since migrating over, having problems with painfully low speed at first, a 404 error trying to access the dashboard, the “like” button still not loading for many people on the blog (only through the Reader) and the problems I mentioned here with the posts not appearing.

I sent Lyrical Host the information you provided. They’ve just come back to me –

“I can confirm that we do not Block the REST API endpoint, if possible, would they be able to provide further details as to what the END Point is doing from what they can see or any further details that they would be able to provide, please?”

Is there anything you could share that would help with what they want to know?

    Many thanks & kindest regards,

    Caz

    Hi @invisiblyme

Looking at this, you can ignore the issue with the RET API for now.

I checked your feed and everything appears in order.

I would keep an eye on this the next time you publish and see if you continue to have issues.

If so, it sounds like the problem is likely related to your site caching. A delay in the post appearing on the homepage and in Reader suggests that your caching is such that the files are not being rebuilt. Looking at your site, you appear to use the StackPath CDN. I would suggest checking on that to make sure files are rebuilt properly upon publishing a new post.
