• Hi,

I want to create a basic website – in the future possibly add more advanced things. But quickly, i need a basic one. I only know html, usually i do video editing for the web. I am not that technically challenged – but im DEFINITELY NOT A PROGRAMMER.
    Can I still use WORDPRESS?

Can wordpress be customized w/o coding to look like a regular site, rather than a BLOG? i do not need a blog.

I see templates for purchase all over the place – but cant quite wrap my brain about how they actually work. Would I just install them according to instructions – and swap out the text and images and links?

I have read the manuals and everything – about installation – and I think it all seems pretty straight forward. Just needing some advice from current users –
this is all very new to me (just found out about wordpress this week!). I also have researched joomla – but that seems more advanced as I do not need to have the sites i am creating manageable by clients or other users.

    Thank you in advance –
    Mandy

  • It is realy pretty easy. If you want more of a site with static pages, that’s doable. The code that makes a blog look and act like a blog can be pretty easily removed. Everything you need to know is in the WP docs: http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Main_Page or in the forums.

Look for free themes here: http://ww.wp.xz.cn/extend/themes/. No need to buy one. Most are already XHMTL valid, too.

You’ll learn something along the way and be ready for more advanced things later.

Thanks for the response. I think i will try it out. Im still confused about the templates/themes for some reason! Im sure i just need to install it and play with it – then i’ll figure it out.

Install and play – that’s a good way to learn. You can browse and download themes from inside WordPress, in Appearance/Add New Themes.
