I am new to developing my own site and using such a customizable blog. I found this plugin to use for book reviews and it looks great. I just need to figure out how to use it, because nothing shows in the preview. I have fields fill in, only the “review” portion shows. I use a shortcode in a post and only the rating, title, and excerpt show. Converting the review to a post did not change anything. How do I take the filled in fields and turn it into a blog post? Any and all help is appreciated.

Also there’s no “fetch” button next to ISBN field (which would be tremendously helpful).

    Hello @buffykennedy

Normally your reviews should show up without you needing to add a shortcode to a regular post. The review should be located at something similar to https://your-domain.com/review/your-review-slug.

For fetching the book data via ISBN make sure the feature is enabled via the plugin’s settings page under the “Advanced” tab. You’ll have to select the Google option as Goodread’s API is no longer public.

I understand the location, but the other fields still aren’t showing up. https://buffykennedy.com/review/testing/

As for the API, I think I figured out how to get an API key through Google, but does this mean that I need to add all the books to “my project” to be pulled into the plugin? Every ISBN I put in keeps coming back not found on Google Books.

You’ll have to select the Google option as Goodread’s API is no longer public.

Are you sure? I can still fetch info from Goodreads

    Hello again @buffykennedy
Can you tell me which theme you’re using so that I can take a look at it. There should be more information on that page if you’ve filled out information such as book title, author, publisher, etc.

In regards to the Google Books API, it is good but I’ve found that its selection of books is limited. Try to use the ISBN of a popular book such as “Harry Potter”, if you get data then it works. If you do not receive any data I’ll follow up with you.

It was up the last I checked a while ago but I am using the discussion here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/21788520-api-deprecation regarding my pronouncements on the Gr API

API – it works now, I guess it will just depend on the book. No worries there anymore.

Theme – BlueHost Website Builder is what shows as the active theme.

It seems you can still get a Gr API key, so you do have the possibility of try that option (for now).

Can you try switching to one of the default Twenty* themes to see if the issue is still the same

Just changing from a BlueHost theme did the trick even without using a default one. THANK YOU!

I would LOVE to figure out how to get a goodreads API though as that would be much more reliable if you can still get one.
