New User Registrations

    I just got an email stating that there were new user registrations on my blog. Since its a personal blog I don’t want anyone else having the ability to post content to my blog, so I was wondering what kind of access these new users have. Under the role for each of the other users it says subscribers and there are no posts, but the email addresses look very… weird I guess is the best way to describe them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I actually just checked my other self hosted blog, and there are no other users besides myself listed there, which is making me think something is up. Should I be concerned?

    If registration is enabled, all users should have subscriber access by default and would not be able to post.

    You can better check here:

    Go to Dashboard > Settings > General > Membership (Anyone can register)

    New User Default Role is also mentioned there.

    You can un-check if want to disable registration.

    I guess I am more concerned with why they would register as a new user. I just got an email stating one of them had multiple failed login attempts, so I just deleted all the users and changed the setting above just to be safe.

    They’re just spam bots hoping that registering will allow them to post comments or actually publish posts. Try this plugin:
